Student System Modernization Parts of Term Summer & Winter

Parts of Term - Spring & Fall

Student Information System Decision Summary Decision Element: Parts of Term Spring and Fall Executive Summary: RamPortal's "Parts of Term" is similar to "sessions" within a term in myWCU. It is the ability to offer courses for a subset of time within a full term. Banner Term: STVPTRM WCU WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY Innovate Implement Integrate Inspire myWCU Fall and Spring Session 01: Full 15-Weeks Session 71: First 7-Weeks Session 72: Second 7-Weeks Session DD: Ad hoc start and/or end dates of a course within the term dates Configuration Decision RamPortal Fall and Spring 1 (System Required): Full Semester 7A: First 7-Weeks 7B: Second 7-Weeks 10: First 10-Weeks 13: Last 13-Weeks 5A: First 5-Weeks 5B: Second 5-Weeks 5C: Third 5-Weeks 8A: First 8-Weeks 6A: Ad Hoc Banner does not have the ability to offer courses that are "dynamically dated"; therefore, our sessions (known as parts-of-term) had to be extended. This decision was made strategically, as each part-of-term must be set up correctly in the SIS for every semester. Too few parts-of-term and it does not meet the needs of the department. Too many, and the time it takes to "set up" a semester in the SIS is extended significantly. Impact & Decision Context There are two main objectives in establishing our parts of term: 1) Banner does not have "dynamic date" capabilities as part of delivered code. All courses need to align with a set part of term length. There can be no exceptions. 2) Due to not having a dynamic date capability, we need to ensure we have collective agreement on the part of term structure that is going to work for WCU.
