Curriculum Vitae

Harvey Rovine is a Professor and Chairperson for the Department of Theatre and Dance at West Chester University. Prior to WCU, Dr. Rovine taught at Illinois State University. He received his BS degree in theatre from Towson University (1969) his MA degree in English Literature and Linguistics from the University of Central Florida (1979) and his PhD in Theatre History and Criticism from the University of Illinois (1985).

Dr. Rovine's research interests are directing and dramaturgy, the two areas where he has also done the most production work. He has directed productions at West Chester University, Illinois State, University of Illinois, the Shakespeare Institute (an NEH project in Orlando, FL), and Goucher College. He was the dramaturge for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival (1985-7) and for Summer Classics in the Park (1993-7) an outdoor festival producing Shakespeare.

Dr. Rovine is the author of Silence in Shakespeare: Drama, Power, and Gender (Ann Arbor: UMI Research Press, 1987, 1989) - as well as articles and presentations on Shakespeare. He is the founder of Summer Classics in the Park, an outdoor performance festival of Shakespeare's plays.

Dr. Rovine has been a member of the faculty of the Honors College at WCU the past ten years.
