For the second consecutive year, the beautiful Borough of West Chester tops the 2018 list of Best College Towns according to HighSpeedInternet.com (HSI).As befits the entity that compiled the list, internet connectivity is a prime
factor they considered when they set their tool “The U.S. City You Should be Living
In” to search for criteria that should be important to college students. They also
evaluated low cost of living, walkability, low crime rate, and a predominantly single
and educated population. The algorithm uses data from sites across the web, including
Census.gov, Obrella.com, Safewise.com, C2ER, City-Data.com, Kelly Norton, and Walk
Score. “We adapted this tool to find cities with an ideal environment for college
students,” notes HSI staffer Rachel Oaks.
Dalí Quartet Performs FREE Concert on WCU Campus
The critically acclaimed Dalí Quartet brings its signature mix of Latin American, Classical and Romantic repertoire to West Chester University on Sunday, September 16, at 3 p.m. The concert takes place in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre in Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. The concert is FREE and open to the public.
Dalí Quartet is the newly named “Quartet in Residence” at West Chester University, and all four members – Adriana Linares (viola), Jesus Morales (cello), Carlos Rubio (second violin) and Salerni (first violin) – actively teach students in the School of Music, as well as work with orchestra sectionals, perform in concerts with faculty, and work with composition students. The quartet’s members are from Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the U.S., and its tours include appearances for distinguished chamber music and cultural center series in the U.S., Canada and South America, including New York, Philadelphia and Toronto.
Adriana Linares, the quartet’s violaist says, “The four of us are all here and devoted to the strings program at West Chester, and we now have a home where students can come and study with us.”
On Sunday, Dalí Quartet will perform a mix of Italian and Spanish selections including Puccini’s Crisantemi, Italian Serenade by Hugo Wolf, String Quartet No. 3 in E Flat Major by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, and String Quartet 1.5 by Paul Salerni, who is a Lehigh Valley-based composer and father of Domenic Salerni, the quartet’s first violinist.
This will be their first concert on West Chester’s campus as faculty and artists in residence.
