WCU’s Wind Ensemble Performs FREE Concert on October 27
West Chester University’s Wells School of Music will present the WCU Wind Ensemble on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 3 p.m. in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theater, Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. The concert is free and open to the public and is also available via livestream here: https://vimeo.com/wsom.
Under the direction of Andrew Yozviak, the ensemble performs a “side-by-side” repertoire concert with the Hopeful Valley Central Wind Ensemble from Pennington, NJ. Hopeful Valley is under the direction of WCU alumnus Andre Harding ‘22. The side-by-side concert is an annual event that pairs WCU's wind ensemble with a local high school wind ensemble.
The concert features classic wind band repertoire including the overture from Ethel Smyth’s The Boatswain’s Mate, the unforgettable themes of Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy, and Leonard Bernstein’s Suite from On the Waterfront. The full program is found here.
The WCU Wind Ensemble is composed of 45 of the finest wind and percussion players at WCU. As a premier ensemble, the group represents WCU at conventions and performs in high schools throughout the region. Many new works have been commissioned by the Ensemble in recent years.
