Faculty Shared Governance
As a community of educators, West Chester University is committed to contributing and ensuring an environment of trust, collaboration, transparency and honesty as outlined in our> Trusting Team Statement and employs rigorous and systematic institutional planning and assessment by engaging with a Shared Governance Council made up of leaders from the following groups:
ASSOCIATION OF PENNSYLVANIA STATE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY FACULTIES (APSCUF)
APSCUF is the bargaining agent for the bargaining unit that comprises faculty and coaches in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
Mission: The mission of the Faculty Senate at West Chester University is to ensure classroom and non-classroom faculty involvement in the shared governance of the institution. A forum for advocating and evaluating institutional policy and related matters affecting the welfare of the University, the Faculty Senate is committed to fostering a climate that promotes the growth and development of faculty and students.
CURRICULUM AND ACADEMIC POLICY COMMITTEE (CAPC)
CAPC exists as a shared governance body, functioning under the authority of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the System, APSCUF, and the System Board of Governors. It serves two purposes:
- To develop, revise, and recommend academic creation of new, existing or elimination of existing academic programs sent by faculty.
- To develop, revise, and recommend academic policies.
These purposes are carried out in a legislative assembly (comprised of elected faculty, elected or appointed students and administration) that recommends to the Academic Vice President and Provost curricular and academic policy matters.
COUNCIL OF CHAIRS
Represents the chairs of the academic departments
The Graduate School Council is made up of all Graduate Program Coordinators and serves as a forum for discussions and recommendations regarding graduate education and research within the university.
