Literacy
Welcome!
This is an Exciting Welcome Message aimed at Prospective Students. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the College of Education and Social Work (CESW), where it is our mission to prepare highly-skilled and ethical professionals to become fair-minded critical thinkers and change agents who act with integrity in the pursuit of knowledge and strive for excellence within their professions.
Mission Statement
Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
Program Overview
The Literacy Department helps to prepare undergraduates, graduates, and professional educators to be reflective teachers.
Our students learn to construct and convey understandings about:
- language and literacy development
- literacy instruction
- assessment
Literacy courses also teach students to recognize the positive contributions of cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity.
Students within our Literacy programs graduate with the tools they need to facilitate the development and learning of their students. They will also graduate with the knowledge to lead and meet the changing educational needs within their communities.
Our department's esteemed faculty instills students with a philosophy that reflects the core goals of our programs while also remaining open to new ideas and experiences. We invite you to read more about our teaching philosophy from our Mission Statement and Conceptual Framework .
