What is Delta Omega?

The Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health was founded in 1924 at Johns Hopkins University within the School of Hygiene and Public Health. The West Chester University Beta Xi Chapter was founded in 2006 by Dr. Stacie Metz. The purpose of Delta Omega is to promote the graduate study of public health, and to recognize outstanding achievement in the new field.

Dr. Chiwoneso Tinago

Faculty Advisor - Dr. Chiwoneso Tinago

Chiwoneso Tinago, PhD, MPH, CHES® is a Professor in the Department of Health. Dr. Tinago teaches both undergraduate and graduate public health courses and is the Program Director for the Certificate in Global Health. Applying a global perspective to all her classes, Dr. Tinago encourages students to see how global practices can have local impacts and conversely, how local practices can have global impacts. This approach has encouraged students to participate in global health internships, the Uganda service-learning program, research activities, conferences, and embark on global health careers. Dr. Tinago is the faculty advisor for the Delta Omega Beta Xi Chapter and the Global Health Ambassadors. She is also the faculty advisor for West Chester University students who participate in the Model World Health Organization conferences.

Dr. Tinago collaborates with local and external researchers and agencies on global health research and projects, in addition to chairing the College of Health Sciences Global Health Research Team and the Global Initiatives Committee. Dr. Tinago was awarded the 2023 E. Riley Holman Memorial Faculty Award, 2021 Young Professional Award by the American Public Health Association International Health Section, 2019 College of Health Sciences Faculty Vision Award, and the 2018 National Role Model New Faculty Researcher Award by Minority Access, Incorporated. Dr. Tinago is an active member of the American Public Health Association, the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health, the American Society for Nutrition, and the American Association of University Women.

Ashley Cifarelli

President – Ashley Cifarelli

Ashley Cifarelli, MPH, CAPM was inducted into Delta Omega Beta in 2019. She received her B.S. in Public Health, minor in Nutrition (2018) in addition to an MPH in Healthcare Management (2019) from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Ashley worked with Penn Medicine for 6 years in various administrative roles across both inpatient and outpatient departments to innovate technology, build standardization, and improve patient quality. Her current role is a Data Analyst and Visualization Specialist at Main Line Health. She currently resides in the suburbs with her fiancé, Austin, and her two cats, Pumpkin & Pepper. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys going to the farmer’s market, hitting the gym, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors.

Doris Swarn

Vice President – Doris Swarn

Doris Swarn, MPH, LSSG earned her MPH in Healthcare Administration from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. While in graduate school Doris completed an administrative internship with Main Line Health in Pennsylvania where she expanded access to perinatal testing and provided a framework to improve the throughput process for environmental services. She was inducted into Delta Omega in 2021. Prior to her graduate studies, Doris worked as a patient advocate with the Camden Healthcare Coalition, where she helped patients in marginalized communities navigate the healthcare system and address social determinants of health. She also worked with the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Public Health to ensure the community access to quality wellness programs through a program called, PhillyPowered. Her professional interests include community health, healthcare strategy and operations, and healthcare policy. Doris is also very passionate about aquatic safety and community improvement through service.

Sunita Wolford

Secretary – Sunita Wolford

Sita is a Senior Customer Success Manager at Carrot Fertility, a digital health technology startup and the leading global fertility benefits platform. She is responsible for the strategic support of her clients including engagement, education, retention, and growth. Prior to Carrot, she worked in well-being consulting at Cigna, responsible for creating wellness and benefit education strategy for her clients. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from Penn State University as well as a Master of Public Health from West Chester University. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist, trained within the core seven areas of competency of health promotion and health education and holds her Virginia Life, Health & Annuities Insurance License. She was inducted into Delta Omega in 2018. Currently Sita resides in Mount Joy, PA with her husband and their baby girl.

Sara Hassan

Communications Manager – Sara Hassan

Sara Hassan serves as an Associate Specialist in the Global Clinical Trial Operations Project Management Office at Merck. She is responsible for providing tactical support for strategic initiatives, overseeing tracking and reporting activities, and contributing to the creation of project deliverables. Prior to Merck, she worked at Chester County Hospital where she held positions as an Infection Control Data Analyst and a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Sara holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Ethnic Studies (2020) and a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Care Management (2023) from West Chester University. She was inducted into Delta Omega in 2023 and currently serves as the Communications Manager on the Delta Omega Beta Xi Executive Board. Passionate about addressing health issues in the Middle East, Sara is dedicated to contributing to the development of solutions that can improve the health outcomes of communities in the region.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply?

To be eligible for regular membership in the Society, Master of Public Health Graduate Students must be a full-time or part-time student, be graduating in the year that they apply, and demonstrate current and/or potential qualities of outstanding leadership in the field of public health and academic excellence.

When can I apply?

Call for applications will be sent out in early spring and applications will be due in March or April of each year.

How will I be notified of my acceptance?

The Faculty Advisor will notify all applicants via email of application status and notify accepted members of the induction date.

When is the Annual Meeting?

An annual chapter meeting will be held in the Spring.

Can I attend Delta Omega events if I'm not a member?

Yes, there will be some events open to non-members can attend
