Diversity

The Diversity Theme for West Chester University's Strategic Plan focuses on two main areas: inclusion and infusion. In addition, within the Diversity Theme of the Strategic Plan, the University worked to create ways to acknowledge and infuse difference and cultural competency. Work also continued with various campus constituencies so as to assure that some diversity offices do not function as silos and with varying purposes. In addition, new energy was devoted to collecting data for some constituency groups on campus that have traditionally not been collected (i.e. veterans and LGBTQA).

Highlights for Year 5

  • The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion coordinated with campus constituents prior to the beginning of the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters to compile a semester-long calendar of diversity-related programs and events. Each semester the calendar of events is sent electronically to the campus community.

  • The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion began implementation of the Diversity 411 program. It facilitated a half-day train-the-trainer program for students on this one-hour diversity awareness program designed for both classroom use and with student organizations. More than 10 programs were offered to 220-plus students in the 2017-18 academic year.
