Maintenance

Mechanical Maintenance

Mechanical Maintenance provides a range of skilled trade services essential for maintaining and repairing campus systems and components.

Electric Shop

Manages and maintains the University’s low and medium voltage electrical systems. Their responsibilities include building electrical infrastructure, lighting, emergency generators, temporary event power and athletic scoreboard systems.

HVAC Shop

The HVAC maintains all of the heating and air conditioning systems for the university.

Plumbing Shop

Maintains all potable water supplies, drainage systems, sewage pump stations, and hydronic boilers.

 

General Trades

Our General Trades team provides essential building maintenance, repairs, and support services, ranging from carpentry and painting to lock work, preventative maintenance, and after-hours emergency response.

Lock Shop

Installs and maintains door hardware and cuts keys.

Carpentry Shop

Maintains and repairs campus buildings, including roofs, walls, floors, doors, windows, signage, and event setups. Furniture assembly and wall-hanging services are available as a chargeable request to the department.

Off-Shift Maintenance Shop

Handles repairs outside normal work hours, dispatched by Public Safety or an on-call manager.

Paint Shop

Is responsible for maintaining finishes of campus buildings, and painting lines on campus parking lots, based on routine schedule. They also complete work for special requests, which is chargeable to the requesting department or project.

Preventative Maintenance

Performs the regular and routine maintenance of equipment for WCU’s educational and general buildings, along with overall maintaining Sykes Student Union and Student Recreation Center. The shop’s primary function is to prevent unplanned equipment failure and ensure optimal functionality of equipment. Utilizing our TMA scheduling system, the maintenance schedule may involve cleaning, lubrication, repairs, or replacement of certain parts.
