Why did you choose WCU and/or the Department of Art + Design?
I fell in love with WCU after touring the campus and visiting the Department of Art
+ Design. It seemed like a beautiful environment to learn and grow. It was also only
45 minutes from my hometown which was comfortable at the time. I'm now living 800
miles from my hometown which I never expected to be comfortable with, but I am.
What training or education did the Department of Art + Design provide for you that
relates to your current occupation?
Everything. I would not be where I'm currently at without the education provided by
the Department of Art + Design. Professor Peggy Hill was the absolute best instructor
and mentor. She always pushed me to give 110%, even if it frustrated the heck out
of me sometimes. The rest of the department was just as wonderful too. They've created
an excellent program and environment that allows creativity to flow freely.
What is a typical day like for you?
Everyday is completely different which is one of the main reasons that I love working
in the music industry. I could be working on a tour campaign in the morning, video
editing in the afternoon and celebrating a big win at night. It keeps my brain moving
constantly. I've learned to embrace the unexpected and adapt accordingly.
What advice would you give to someone who would like to enter your field?
Find someone who is working extremely hard and then find a way to work even harder
than they are. Grasp any opportunity that comes your way and most importantly, be
kind to everyone throughout your life.
What is your favorite memory of being a student at WCU and/or in the Department of
Art + Design?
I always loved how the Department of Art + Design was like a big family. Everybody
knew everybody. We embraced each other's differences and supported one another day
after day. There were late nights and early mornings that I didn't think I'd survive.
I look back now and realize they were some of the best days ever. I also loved playing
hacky sack in between classes with some incredible fellow students.
