WCU Spring 2025 Magazine

Dear West Chester University Community,

I am Chris Needham, a junior who is majoring in biomedical engineering, and I am writing to you as our University’s current Student Government Association’s student trustee. The spring semester is in full swing, and students are continuing to thrive and engage with our extraordinary University in every aspect. Throughout every member of our student body, faculty, and staff, West Chester University continues to shine as a beacon for education, community, and excellence in Pennsylvania. This spring semester, however, is an even more exciting time for our University as we welcome and inaugurate President Laurie Bernotsky!

During the 2024-2025 academic year, I began my role as the student trustee synchronously with President Bernotsky beginning her role as president. From the very start, I saw the ambitious vision she has for our University and her desire to put students on the path to success, no matter what their background. Through our discussions about WCU and her engagement with our campus community, President Bernotsky has demonstrated passion, understanding, and commitment to our University in its entirety. As a first-generation student herself, her background resonates with the student body. Her leadership embodies a personal understanding of the challenges associated with higher education, as well as dedication to the idea of public higher education. Through her tenure as president, the University will find comfort having a leader who looks out for and supports students.

As we face challenges and changes within our world and in public higher education, President Bernotsky is determined to support our students through and through. For West Chester University, the inauguration is a truly exciting transition into an era that will continue to bolster our prestige, legacy, and most importantly, community. Congratulations, President Bernotsky! I and my fellow peers look forward to the amazing work you will accomplish during your time as president.
