Classroom Technology Updates

The IS&T multimedia team continues with its initiative to remove handheld remotes for web-conferencing cameras in classrooms while transitioning to integrating these controls at the classroom touch panel instead for a more user-friendly experience. This phased, long-term plan continues to support hybrid instruction when students attend class remotely. End-users can now control the classroom web-conferencing camera equipment directly from the touch panel in the following buildings: 25UNA, Anderson, BPMC, Brandywine Hall, Mitchell, Recitation, Swope, and SECC and will look similar to this:

Classroom Technology Updates

Classroom audio-visual support is available by scanning the QR code posted at each instructor station which will directly connect you to a live multimedia technician. Users can also dial 610-436-3350 and press the #4 option for classroom support or submit a ServiceNow request.

Moonshot for Equity Initiative: Technology Access

Laptop Programs:

IS&T offers a variety of lending options for students as part of the Moonshot for Equity initiative with the goal of providing equitable access to technology resources for students demonstrating need for the equipment. Students can explore available programs, computer labs, and retail equipment educational discounts on the Student Computing Resources website.

Additionally, the Provost’s Office, Deans and IS&T have allocated resources to maintain a supply of Windows and MacOS laptops that will now be available for adjunct faculty. Adjunct Faculty can submit a request using the Adjunct Faculty Loaner Laptop Form.

Software Access Via RamCloud:

RamCloud enables seamless streaming of applications directly to a student's web browser on any device. It tightly integrates with the university Learning Management System D2L, and university storage services like OneDrive and Google Drive. Watch the RamCloud NextGen Promotional Video or login at https://ramcloud.wcupa.edu.

Access to Adobe for Students:

All WCU students have access to Adobe’s web-based creative platform Adobe Express. Additionally, students enrolled in academic programs requiring Adobe products to complete coursework will have no-cost access to the full Adobe Creative Cloud Pro suite.

Improving WCU's Information Security Posture

Enhanced Email Security

On Monday, December 16, 2024, IS&T implemented a new email security product called Proofpoint. Proofpoint is a leading platform for phishing, malware, and spoofing protection and replaces previous tools with more advanced defenses.

Note: Users should continue to exercise caution when inspecting URLs embedded in email and attachments.

Users will continue to receive a refreshed Daily Digest summarizing quarantined messages. The updated Daily Digest features a new design, with additional details available in the linked Knowledge Base article.

In addition, URL Defense will now display the true destinations of links, enabling users to verify their legitimacy before clicking. Malicious links will redirect to a support page, ensuring protection from harmful sites.
