2026 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. commemoration
January 21 - 27, 2026
In January 1994, the Frederick Douglass Society under the leadership of Dr. Valerie Dudley and Dr. Franklin Simpson, former director of the Office of Social Equity established a program at West Chester University that honored the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by hosting a brunch in shortly following Dr. King’s birthday during the start of the spring semester. The mission of the brunch was to celebrate Dr. King’s impact on the world.
To date, West Chester University continues this special celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through an awards celebration on the main campus. The celebration recognizes honorees for the Drum Major for Justice, Larry Dowdy Community Service, and Outstanding Student Organization Leadership & Community Service Awards.
We congratulate honorees for the 2026 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Celebration!
