Students

Academic advising at WCU is an essential part of helping students make confident, informed decisions about their academic path. Advisors serve as partners in your journey, helping you understand degree requirements, explore interests, overcome challenges, and stay on track toward graduation, so seeking them out ensures you’re making the most of your time and opportunities at WCU.

Who is my advisor?

Your advisor's name and contact information will appear on your RamPortal homepage and on Navigate. Schedule an appointment to ask about scheduling, policies, and campus resources.

How Do I...?

Register for classes

  1. Enrollment date – this is found on your RamPortal home page during week 5 of each semester.
  2. Advisor appointment – Every advisor has their own way of scheduling appointments.  Contact your advisor via email to ask!
  3. Remove holds so I can register for classes – First, holds can be related to a variety of situations (ie., financial, parking violation, conduct violations, etc.).  Please contact the appropriate office.

Schedule a meeting with an advisor in the  Exploratory Studies department to discuss your options.

Take time off and re-enter WCU

A maximum of two semesters of non-enrollment are permitted before a student must reapply to the university. Please contact the Registrar’s Office.

Ask for Academic Forgiveness

Academic Forgiveness allows current undergraduates to request to remove up to three courses (maximum 12 credits) with grades of D(+/–), F, or Z from their GPA, while keeping earned credit for D‑level courses. This cannot be used for required academic foundation or major-related courses. Please connect with your advisor first to discuss the option of academic forgiveness.

How TO ASK FOR ACADEMIC FORGIVENESS

Take care of a “No Grade (NG)”

A grade of "NG" is assigned when an arrangement has been made between the student and the instructor to complete coursework beyond the confines of the semester or session.

How TO TAKE CARE OF AN NG

Get a copy of my transcript

ACTIVE students are required to place their transcript orders through their RamPortal account.  Transcripts can be mailed or emailed.

Deal with Academic Probation

See my grades

Final grades are posted the week after finals on RamPortal.  To see current grades, check your D2L for each course and discuss with your faculty.

Degree Audit

The Degree Audit is a guide for a student's academic progress. Students can access, view, and print a Degree Audit in RamPortal to track their academic progress towards completion of their degree requirements. It is meant to be a tool for advisement and schedule planning; it does not prevent a student from graduating. Every student’s academic situation is unique, so advising notes may also be incorporated into the report to clarify any discrepancies.

Drop or withdraw from a course

Term Withdrawal

A term withdrawal is the complete withdrawal of all courses for a specific term at West Chester University. Upon withdrawal, all ungraded courses will be given a grade of “W” for the indicated term. The date you request a term withdraw is used to determine if an adjustment to tuition is required. The adjustment calendar is available on the academic calendar website.

NOTE: Term Withdrawal may affect your financial aid and if you have an outstanding balance to the University, your transcripts may be unavailable until the issue is resolved.

To withdraw from all courses for a given term, undergraduate and graduate students should complete a Term/University Withdrawal form through their RamPortal.

University Withdrawal

Students who do not intend to continue at West Chester University may withdraw from the university. Students who elect to withdraw from the university would then need to apply for readmission if they wish to re-enroll in courses. If you are currently enrolled in courses, you can indicate on your withdrawal form if you intend on withdrawing after the completion of the term OR if you are withdrawing immediately including your current classes.  Any in progress classes, would be graded as a "W".
