Computer & Software Requirements

There are a variety of resources on campus that can help with your technical questions and concerns. 

Recommended Student Computer Configuration

Students need particular hardware and software to successfully participate in our online programs. The sections below list minimum computer hardware, software, and computer skills. Please note that these are minimum requirements, and that our online courses will work more effectively with higher capabilities. You can also download a printable document of the below recommended specifications for reference.

Computer Part Specification
Operating System Windows 10 or MacOS Catalina; OS Big Sur is not yet supported by WCU
Processor Industry Standard Intel or AMD processor
Memory 8GB or more
Hard Drive 500GB or more
Browser D2L Services recommends Firefox or Chrome for use in the Brightspace by D2L Learning Management System.
Software Microsoft Office 365 is available for free to all WCU students.
Microphone/Speakers Microphone and speakers are required for all Distance Education courses. While internal microphone and speakers may be sufficient, headphones with an attached microphone are also recommended.
Webcam May be required by certain courses. In many cases, an internal webcam will suffice. 

Equipment Rentals During Remote Learning

IS&T has devices (laptops, webcams, hotspots) available to loan, free of charge, during remote instruction. Request a device to be shipped to your remote location, for free, by filling out a request ticket with Resnet's ServiceNow portal
