About SharePoint

Microsoft SharePoint is a cloud-based service that can be used to securely store, organize, share, and access information. Many departments on campus use SharePoint for file sharing and collaboration. Any WCU employee with a valid network account can access SharePoint at wcupa.sharepoint.com from both on and off campus.

Assigning specific permission levels to users is what makes SharePoint a secure site. SharePoint sites can be open to the entire WCU campus or accessible to only a few users.

SharePoint is accessible only to WCU employees. Students are generally prohibited from accessing SharePoint, except in cases where the student is a Graduate Assistant or Student Worker. In such cases, the student's supervisor must request access on their behalf, and access will be granted only for the department in which the student works.

Request a SharePoint site

To request a SharePoint site, the requestor's department Chair or manager must submit an email to the

Web Team

, the SharePoint End User Administrator, with the following information:

  • Purpose of the site
  • Name of the site
  • Division or college the department reports to
  • Names of the owners of the site

Once the site has been approved, the owners must attend the Introduction to SharePoint training offered by West Chester University’s Faculty and Staff Training unit before the site will be created. After training is completed, the SharePoint End User Administrator will create the site and provide any additional support that is needed.

Along with the Faculty and Staff training unit, below are guides for SharePoint users and owners.
