Dr. Schugar graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with degrees in Curriculum and Instruction (B.S. '01, M.Ed. '05, Ph.D. '08). Before joining the faculty at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Schugar taught second grade in the Montgomery County Public School system in Maryland. Her current research interests center on the role of mobile technologies (tablets and wearable technology) in reading instruction, with a particular focus on students' comprehension when reading from these devices. Her work has been presented widely and published in journals such as The Reading Teacher and The Journal of Technology in Teaching and Learning. In addition, Dr. Schugar's research has been featured by media outlets such as The New York Times, NPR, Education Week, NBC News, Real Simple magazine, and Men's Fitness.
