ADA Compliance Reminders

For complete information on accommodating students with disabilities, please visit the website of the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (OSSD).

Time and a half on exams is provided to students in the following manner:

  1. Establish the duration of the exam for the entire class (e.g., 4 hours for all students without accommodations in the course).
  2. Multiply the duration of the exam by 1.5 (e.g., 4 hours X 1.5 = 6 hours)
  3. Provide the student receiving the time and a half accommodation six uninterrupted hours to complete the exam.
  4. The same testing environment should be afforded to students with the accommodation as to students without the accommodation. (e.g., a quiet classroom or quiet office space.)
  5. Time and a half does not count if you give time and a half to ALL students. Once you increase the time afforded to students without the accommodation on the exam, you must again increase the time afforded to the student receiving the accommodation. (e.g., giving every student 1.5 hours to complete a 1 hour exam does not constitute providing the time and a half accommodation. If every student gets 1.5 hours, then the student with the accommodation for time and a half should receive 2.25 hours to complete the exam.)

An alternative testing/quiet test site is provided to students in the following manner:

  1. The student takes the exam in a small, quiet location, separate from other students, faculty, and staff.
  2. No audible or visual distractions should be present in the room. (e.g., no cell phones, background radio, office phones, public announcements, etc.)
  3. No audible or visual distractions should be present outside of the room. (e.g., no construction noise, lawnmowers, sports fields, etc.)
  4. OSSD provides proctoring services to registered OSSD students afforded the alternative testing/quiet site accommodation. Advanced notice is required. See http://www.wcupa.edu/ussss/ossd/proctoringCenter.aspxfor details.
