Biography

Dr. Harrison came to WCUPA from the University of Delaware in January 2014. She earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Michigan in 2003. Her dissertation research, done at the Alzheimer's Research Center, focused on the memory and cognitive features of dementia behaviors and was funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR). Dr. Harrison's research interests include dementia care, caregiver burden, and depression in older adults. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations. Her current research is an interdisciplinary project that focuses on fall prevention among community older adults. She holds national certification as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner and maintains a clinical practice in gerontology with Christiana Health Care. Dr. Harrison served as national chair (2012-2014) of the Education committee for Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) and led the development and publication of a toolkit of resources for advanced practice nurses.
