Inspiration

My interest in social work stems from the NAACP in the seventh grade during the civil rights movement. My community focus on democracy and economic development can be connected to that experience. Social work just naturally seemed best for me to leave my mark.

  • Services to assist persons who may have been excluded or discriminated against in some way in our society, often focus on accessing resources
  • The analysis of what has not worked and what can contribute to stronger student participation and performance requires acknowledging the broader picture
  • Racial and cultural socialization that incorporates resources produced by members of the diverse groups in families, educational, social service and mental health settings offer opportunities for people to learn about their cultural strengths and to grow and utilize these in decision making.
