American's Legal System via London

The Department of Criminal Justice explored the origins of this country's legal system in London.

Dr. Mary Brewster (Criminal Justice), Dr. Sami Abdel-Salam (Criminal Justice) and 21 students spent their spring break in London as part of their Topical Seminar on the Roots of the American Criminal Justice System. While in London, the group had the opportunity to: attend court at the Old Bailey and Royal Courts of Justice; learn from police officers, drug treatment providers, substance abuse prevention program advocates, domestic violence victim advocates, and probation officers; tour the Houses of Parliament, Inns of Court, and Royal Courts of Justice with an attorney; visit the Metropolitan Police Heritage Center; and tour the Tower of London. These and other activities informed the group about some of the origins of the American criminal justice system. Additionally, faculty and students alike networked with London-based criminal justice professionals.
