Kenya
The Kenya Study Abroad Program is a three-week, short-term opportunity for social work students to engage in a professional exchange of knowledge, skills, and resources with Kenyan social service providers. Students are placed with an organization for approximately ten of the days that we are in country, where they shadow social workers in the field and share their own practice experiences with the goal of leaving behind ideas and/or resources that can be used by the organization while taking away a broadened view of how social work can be practiced. In addition to the field experience, students enjoy immersion in Kenyan culture through a weekend safari, day trips to cultural sites, and outings to local restaurants.
Travel takes place for the last two weeks in May and first week in June, after spring graduation ceremonies have completed. The program is currently open to junior and senior undergraduate and graduate social work students and is associated with SWO 375, SWO 432 or SWG 590. Applications open mid-Spring semester and students are accepted on a rolling basis.
