Teacher education candidates who intend to teach in a public school classroom in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must earn the appropriate PA teacher certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). All teacher education programs at West Chester University leading to Instructional or Educational Specialist certifications have PDE approval. A candidate who completes one of these programs may be recommended to PDE for certification by the Dean of the College of Education.
New regulations in 22 Pa. Code Chapter 49 resulted in changes of teacher education programs at West Chester University. Some of the changes affect existing programs across the Unit. Other changes, more sweeping in nature, have resulted in several new undergraduate teacher education programs in the College of Education.
