Dr. Melissa Reed

Dr. Melissa A. Reed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the Exercise Science division of the department.

Dr. Reed earned her BS in Exercise Physiology from East Stroudsburg University. She then completed her MA in Exercise Science from East Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina. She also completed her PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science from East Carolina University.

Dr. Reed’s primary area of research focuses on the reversal of Type 2 diabetes following bariatric surgery, obesity and metabolic disorders. She is certified as a Clinical Exercise Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Physiological Society.

Dr. Reed has published in journals such as the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Obesity Surgery, and the American Journal of Physiology.
