Dr. Sheri Melton

Dr. Melton received her Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Nutrition from Louisiana State University and her M.Ed. in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Health Promotion from the University of New Orleans. Her professional clinical experience encompasses cardiac and orthopedic rehabilitation as well as weight management programs. Her research interests include exercise metabolism, caloric expenditure, and post-menopausal weight gain and bone loss. She is actively involved in the Research Consortium at WCU and has served as President of that organization.

Dr. Melton is currently the Assistant Chair of the Kinesiology Department, head of the Exercise Science Division, Graduate Coordinator of the MS in Exercise and Sports Physiology program, and the Accreditation Director of the Exercise Science major program. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, The American Physiological Society, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and Society of Experimental Biology.

She has travelled to India several times as keynote speaker for workshops and continuing medical education seminars. Dr. Melton is a 2010 Fulbright-Nehru Scholar.
