The certificate in public administration is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to enhance the field of public service through positions both inside and outside government in the nonprofit and even private sector, e.g., as consultants to governmental organizations or as governmental service providers. The certificate is designed for individuals with professional work experience who desire to enhance their administrative and public management skills.
The certificate in human resource management is designed for graduate students who want to enhance their skills and knowledge in the area of human resources. Students may earn the certificate by completing each of the following human resources management courses with a minimum grade of B in each: PPA 504, 550, 551, 552, 553, and 554. Degree students in the MPA Human Resource Management concentration may also apply for the certificate after completing the stated requirements.
The certificate in nonprofit administration is designed for those who want to enhance their knowledge of nonprofit administration. It is appropriate for individuals pursuing careers in a wide range of nonprofit fields and is intended to provide a core set of skills and knowledge for people who desire to enhance their management and supervisory skills within the context of a nonprofit organization.
The Graduate Business Certificate program is primarily intended for students who need knowledge of major business disciplines but have not yet committed to seeking an MBA. Admission into the Graduate Business Certificate program will be open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Students pursuing the Graduate Business Certificate can take courses within any of our learning formats (online or hybrid).
The Department of Geography and Planning offers a certificate program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that consists of six courses. Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies have become prominent workplace tools used widely in public and private sectors. This certificate program will provide graduate-level instruction on their use. If a certificate student subsequently or simultaneously applies for and is accepted into one of the Master's degree programs in geography, the geography courses (GEO) listed below can be counted towards the degree.
The Department of Geography and Planning offers a certificate program in Urban and Regional Planning that consists of six courses. Urban and Regional Planning is a creative way to influence the future of regions, cities and neighborhoods. Professional planners use a variety of tools and techniques to design communities that are equitable and sustainable. This certificate program provides graduate-level instruction on the major areas of planning. If a certificate student subsequently or simultaneously applies for and is accepted into the Master of Arts or the MPA-Urban and Regional Planning degree programs in geography, the geography courses (GEO) listed below can be counted towards the degree. For students enrolled in the MPA program, the certificate will be awarded along with the MPA degree.
