West Chester University's Master of Business Administration Program is a flexible, dynamic curriculum that exposes students to the core business topics needed to be successful in a global business environment, while also presenting options for acquiring more specialized knowledge.
West Chester University's Master of Business Administration Program is a 10 course, 30 credit program. You are required to complete 7 core level courses, and 3 elective courses. You may choose from any MBA course elective in order to complete your degree, or you may complete your Project Management, Business Analytics, or Entreprenuership Certificate at the same time.
Core-level Courses (required of all students)
West Chester University's Master of Business Administration Program offers three graduate level certificates in Entrepreneurship, Business Analytics, and Project Management. Each certificate may be taken independently of the MBA or as a part of the MBA Program.
This certificate addresses key areas of entrepreneurship including: Finance; Leadership; Marketing; Intellectual Property; Business Contract Law; Opportunity Recognition; Industry Analysis, and Target Market Analysis. The Entrepreneurship Certificate is multi-disciplinary in content and the courses incorporate both the theory and practice of entrepreneurship.Entrepreneurship Certificate students have the opportunity to develop an idea for a new venture and to assist emerging growth businesses in addressing entrepreneurship related issues. The students have the opportunity to participate in the Cottrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Center programs including Global Entrepreneurship Week, a private equity due diligence fellowship, and a business idea competition.
The rise of data availability in organizations coupled with increasing computing capacity is feeding demand for workers skilled in business analytics. This certificate is designed to address this need by exposing students to various analytical tools that are readily available and that can be applied to a multitude of business areas. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of 2012 the median pay for such positions ($75,000) is double the median wage for all workers, which will further fuel demand for the certificate. The regional environment has high demand for people with business analytics skills. Major regional industries such as healthcare, finance, government, and telecommunications are all avenues of employment for students holding certificates in Business Analytics.
The entire MBA and Certificate can be completed online. All of our programs are open to both in-state and out-of-state students. Our online courses are also offered over 8 weeks by the same high quality faculty that teach our on campus students Our online courses are asynchronous, which means that there are weekly deadlines and examination windows, but generally no other set time that you need to log into the course. This means that you can complete your classwork on your weekly schedule – around your work and family commitments. In some cases professors may assign students into teams and teams may need to coordinate their work together and therefore be available at a certain time.
We deliver our online courses through Desire2Learn (D2L) online courseware. Within D2L professors teaching online course have many options for delivering course material including video, voiceover presentations, blog postings, file uploads, discussion forums and online testing.
In order to successfully complete an online course you should have access to high-speed (broadband) internet access, Microsoft Office (West Chester provides students a free license) and in some courses your professor may require a webcam and microphone for presenting online.
Classes for all West Chester University MBA courses are held over an 8 week term. Five terms are offered in each academic year (Fall 1, Fall 2, Spring 1, Spring 2 and Summer). Each 8 week term course is a full 3 credit graduate course. Most part-time students take only one course per 8 week term. Full-time students take multiple courses per 8 week term. You can vary your load in a given session to suit your work/life balance.
