FAQs

Thank you for your interest in the MBA Program! The information that follows has been prepared to address questions frequently asked by applicants to the MBA Program. If you have additional questions, please contact us at mba@wcupa.edu or 610-436-2608.

General

Work-Life balance

Yes, this program is specifically structured to accommodate professionals who work full-time and want to enhance their professional credentials on a part-time basis. Students employed full-time usually take one course per term, and two courses per semester and graduate in less than two years.

Can I choose full-time or part-time?

Yes, although most students in the program work full-time and attend part-time over a two year period (or longer if your work and home commitments require it), it is possible to take two to three courses per term, and five per semester, and complete the program in nine months.

What are the students like?

We have an even mix of traditional, second carreer and professional level students.

What software do I need?

All students are expected to have access to Microsoft Office 2010 or a later version of Office. All West Chester University faculty, staff, and enrolled students are eligible to download Microsoft Office at no cost from our IT helpdesk.

Admissions

If I apply when will I know if I'm accepted?

Once applicants have completed all necessary requirements for admission to the program, including submitting all required materials, you should hear back from us regarding your application status in less than three weeks. It is always best to directly contact the MBA office first, before you apply, so that we may answer any of your questions and help make the application process as smooth as possible. You are welcome to apply at any time of the year. MBA applications are processed year-round.   Admissions are effective at the start of the spring or fall semesters, but you may take up to three classes (9 credits) before your official admissions date.

What about international students?

International students should follow the same application procedures on the Admissions page. Additionally, applicants whose native language is not English must submit evidence of satisfactory performance on either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS–academic version).

Satisfactory TOEFL scores are:

  • 550 for the written exam
  • 213 for the computer-based exam
  • 70 for the Internet-based exam

Satisfactory IELTS scores are at the sixth band.

Can I take courses as a non-degree student?

Yes, space permitting and if you meet our Pre-Requisite Requirements. You may take up to three courses without matriculating per West Chester University policy. Matriculation must occur in a Certificate and/or MBA before your fourth course. This is a great way to get started in the program while you complete any remaining admissions items.

Scheduling and Registration

How often are the courses offered in the MBA Program?

All MBA courses are offered at least twice per year and usually much more often. An updated list of the entire next year's course offerings is distributed to MBA students each semester.

Can I transfer credit for courses taken at other colleges that are comparable to the courses in the MBA program?

Yes, if approved, up to nine credits may be transferred. Each case is handled on an individual basis. The credits submitted for possible transfer must have been earned at an AACSB accredited graduate school.

Can I receive credit for my life experience (CLEP)?

No, West Chester University policy does not permit the granting of graduate-level academic credit for life experience.

Can I earn graduate "Credit by Examination (CBE)"?

No, this program is not designed to grant credit by examination.

How will I be billed for classes for which I register?

The Bursar's Office will send a tuition bill after the student has properly registered for classes. All deadlines stated in the registration materials must be observed or the student risks cancellation of all scheduled courses. Payment may be made in person, at the Bursar's Office, by mail, or by phone. Please note: students scheduling late will not receive a bill and must contact the Bursar's Office at 610-436-2552 directly and immediately to make payment.

Can I defer tuition?

West Chester University does offer payment plans for full and part-time students. Students should contact the Bursar's Office and the Financial Aid Office directly for more information. West Chester University does permit students to charge tuition fees on VISA, Mastercard, or American Express. If you have questions about this option, please call the Bursar's Office at 610-436-2552.
